Deputy Chief Minister Participates in 'Jal Kalash Yatra' and Performs 'Deepdan' in the Behar River
"Only if we replenish our water reserves today will the future generation have access to water," says Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla
Rewa, During a program organized by the Rewa Municipal Corporation under the 'Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan' (Water Conservation and Augmentation Campaign), Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla participated in a 'Jal Kalash Yatra' (Water Pot Procession) to convey the message of water conservation. The Deputy Chief Minister performed the *Aarti* (ritual worship) of the Behar River at Panchmath and offered *Deepdan* (the ceremonial offering of lamps). Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that water conservation is a collective responsibility. He urged every individual to contribute to the government's water conservation efforts—specifically by installing rainwater harvesting systems in their homes—to save every single drop of water and channel it back into the womb of Mother Earth. He emphasized that only by replenishing our water reserves today can we ensure that the future generation has access to water; indeed, water is the very foundation of life, and without it, human existence itself would cease.
The Deputy Chief Minister noted that, as part of the 'Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan,' a commendable water conservation program was organized on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra. He called upon everyone to join hands in making Rewa the country's number one city in terms of cleanliness and beauty. He announced that large-scale tree plantation drives would be undertaken across the city in the coming year, adding that the protection and nurturing of these saplings would be a shared responsibility. He recalled that our ancestors conveyed the message of environmental conservation by endowing us with magnificent ponds and gardens; similarly, we too must embrace water conservation and tree plantation to safeguard the lives of future generations. Only then can the balance of nature be maintained and life on Earth remain secure. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and provide us with oxygen, whereas we consume oxygen and release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere; thus, trees and plants serve as vital factories that generate life-sustaining oxygen for us. Therefore, he urged every individual to resolve to plant and nurture at least five saplings on every possible occasion.
The Deputy Chief Minister also offered prayers at the Shiva Temple located within the Panchmath Dham complex and participated in the Behar River *Aarti* ceremony. Speaking at the event, former Mayor and District BJP President Virendra Gupta urged everyone to contribute to the efforts being undertaken by the government for water conservation and augmentation. He noted that the construction of the Riverfront has significantly enhanced the beauty and development of the Panchmath Dham area, and emphasized that maintaining the aesthetic appeal of this site is a responsibility shared by all. Speaking at the event, Municipal Commissioner Akshat Jain stated that, under the 'Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan' (Water and River Conservation Campaign), 15 different types of activities are currently being conducted within the municipal corporation's jurisdiction. He noted that the targets set by the administration under this campaign have been successfully achieved by the Rewa Municipal Corporation as well as all the Nagar Panchayats. Works such as the cleaning and restoration of old water sources, the cleaning of water tanks, and the cleaning of stepwells are being carried out on a continuous basis. Furthermore, a campaign will be launched to install water harvesting systems in every household. During the ceremony, poet Surendra Kumar Shukla recited inspiring songs and poems on the theme of water conservation. The event was attended by Rajgopal Chari Mishra, Dinanath Verma, Ambuj Rajak, Rajiv Pandey, Munna Khan, Gaurav Pandey, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Prakash Dwivedi, Abhimanyu Singh, Jageshwar (of the Jan Abhiyan Parishad), and a large number of citizens. The program was anchored by the young poet Siddharth Srivastava.
