Now the first list of candidates has been released by the Congress regarding the Katni, Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. On Sunday 15 October, Congress released its first list of candidates. According to this first list, out of the four assembly constituencies of Katni district, only one assembly constituency Barwara has chosen its candidate Vijayraghavendra Singh Basant, who had won the last election and had become the MLA of Barwara. In the last assembly election, Bharatiya Janata Party won the Barwara assembly seat. There was a contest between Moti Kashyap of the party and Vijay Raghavendra Singh of Congress. In this, the Congress candidate won by 21360 votes and currently the Congress MLA in Barwara Assembly is Vijay Raghavendra Singh. Before this, Barwara assembly seat was held by BJP for the last two elections. BJP's Moti Kashyap had won consecutively in the assembly elections held in 2008 and 2013.

Barwara assembly constituency of Katni district is one of the 230 assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh state. It is a segment of Shahdol Lok Sabha constituency. In the assembly elections 2018, Barwara Vijayaraghavendra Singh Congress 84236 Moti Kashyap BJP 62876 Ajay Gotiya BSP 5942 Arvind Singh Tekam Gogpa 4938 votes were obtained.
