Communal riots reduced in Bihar due to liquor ban
Police showed figures
Patna, incidents of communal riots have reduced due to liquor ban in Bihar. Bihar Police has made this claim by showing figures. DGP Vinay Kumar said that there has been a three-fold reduction in riots during the last 20 years. In the year 2004, there were 9199 riots across the state, the number of which reduced to 3186 in 2024. Since the implementation of liquor ban law in the state and then the introduction of Dial 112 system, cases of communal riots have continuously decreased.
Bihar Police Headquarters released figures and said that there were 8520 riots in 2001. In 2004, their number increased to 9199. In 2015, there was a slight increase in these incidents and it increased to 13311. But after the implementation of the prohibition law in 2016, it decreased rapidly and the number came down to 11617.
The headquarters said that in 2021, the police department started dial-112 for emergency service. This year communal cases came down to 6298. In 2024, this number reduced by half to 3186. In 2025, only 205 cases have been registered so far. The police headquarters said that in case of any emergency or incident, the police reaches the spot within 15 to 20 minutes of calling on Dial-112.
During riot-related incidents or any clash, as soon as a call is received on Dial-112, the police shows promptness and reaches the concerned place and controls it. DGP Vinay Kumar said that the prohibition law and dial-112 have proved to be very effective in reducing the incidents of riots. Strict monitoring of any such incident is done.
