'Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj learned 16 languages, politics on language is wrong'
MLA of Shinde faction attacks Thackeray brothers
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has launched a scathing attack on Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray over the Hindi-Marathi language dispute in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad). Citing the example of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj being a polyglot, he said that he had learned 16 languages.
Gaikwad's statement came at a time when the Thackeray brothers (Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray) held a rally in Worli, Mumbai on Saturday, in which the Thackeray brothers came together on stage after 2 decades. This rally was organized as a celebration of the state government's decision to implement Hindi as the third language and withdraw the proposed orders to teach Hindi from the first class. In the rally, both the leaders reiterated their opposition to any attempt to 'impose' Hindi and sideline the Marathi language.
Countering this, MLA Sanjay Gaikwad said that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj had learned 16 languages. Tarabai and Jijabai also knew many languages, including Hindi. He said that we should learn as many languages as possible. Gaikwad said that it is wrong to do politics on language, he argued that if we have to stop terrorism then we should also learn Urdu. I have said this many times.
