Every year, Chhath festival starts from Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month and ends on Saptami Tithi by offering Arghya to the rising Sun. The first day of Chhath festival is Nahai-Khai. On this day, the house is cleaned thoroughly so that the atmosphere of the house is pure and sacred. Follow these important rules on the day of Nahai-Khai on Chhath Puja
The first day of Chhath Puja, 'Nahay-Khai', marks the beginning of this festival. Women fasting on this day have to follow some special rules.
Women fasting on this day should wake up early in the morning and clean the entire house thoroughly. After this, take a bath and wear clean clothes. If possible, wear new clothes after bathing, otherwise you can also wear clean washed clothes.
Now take a pledge to observe the fast of Chhath Puja with full rituals and offer water to Lord Surya and worship him.
During Chhath Puja, special care is taken of the purity of food. Do not use garlic, onion etc. in the food prepared on this day. On this day, gram dal, pumpkin vegetable, and rice are given prominence in the food.
On this day, only new or well-cleaned utensils are used to prepare food, so that purity remains in the food.
On the day of Nahay-Khay, first offer food to the Sun God, only after that you can eat.
On the day of Nahay Khay, take special care that the food prepared on this day should be eaten first by the women who observe the fast of Chhath Puja. After this, other family members should eat.

According to the Panchang, this year the first day of Chhath Mahaparva, Nahay-Khay is today i.e. on 5 November 2024. On this day sunrise will be at 6.39 am and sunset will be at 5.41 pm. During this time, the fasting can worship.
Nahay Khay Puja Vidhi
The first day of Chhath Puja is known as Nahay Khay. On the day of Nahay Khay, fasting women should wake up early in the morning and clean the house and then take a bath in the Ganges or any holy river. Doing this is considered very good and auspicious. If there is no river nearby, then you can take a bath at home by mixing some Gangajal in the water. After bathing, wear clean or new clothes and take a pledge to fast for Chhath Puja. The fast of Chhath Puja is considered to start from this day itself. This fast is dedicated to the well-being of children and family. Now offer Arghya to the Sun God and worship. After this, take a satvik meal of gram dal, pumpkin vegetable and rice.
