Bihar tops the country in distributing free medicines to patients

Patna, questions keep arising about health services in Bihar. Cases of negligence keep coming up from treatment of patients to drug supply. Meanwhile, according to a figure, Bihar ranks first among 24 states, where free medicines are distributed to patients by government hospitals and different health centers. Bihar has been recognized for making the Drug and Vaccine Distribution Management System (DVDMS) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare successful.
Bihar ranked first with 77.22 percent marks in distribution, supply and use of essential medicines to patients, while Rajasthan ranked second with 76.91 percent marks and Telangana ranked third with 69.14 percent. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released the monthly ranking of September. Let us tell you that the Drug and Vaccine Distribution Management System is operated by the Ministry in 24 states of the country.
Let us tell you that in the year 2005, CM Nitish Kumar started improving the health system in hospitals. In 2006, the Nitish government adopted the National Rural Health Mission. Under this, free drug distribution was started at primary health centers, district hospitals and sub centers. In 2011, after the recommendation of the central government, Bihar started a scheme for free distribution of more medicines in government hospitals. A total of 611 medicines are currently included in the list of essential medicines in Bihar. In 2014, the availability of free medicine was further increased in government hospitals in the state.
The Health Department said on Wednesday, 'The ranking of states under DVDMS is decided on 11 parameters, including DVDMS coverage and use, stock out, finished quantity ratio including breakage / loss / wastage, average delay in drug supply and release of payment to the vendor, and Bihar has secured the first position on the basis of 11 parameters. The letter said that medicines are being made available at district hospitals, community health centers, primary health centers, urban primary health centers and health and wellness centers across the state.
