Shahdol, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Rajesh Mishra informed that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is an ambitious and public welfare scheme of the Prime Minister. This scheme benefits those listed in the 2011 Census or all BPL cardholders who have a food grain card issued in their name and are regularly receiving rations. To avail of this scheme, beneficiaries must be above 70 years of age. Under this scheme, the government provides free treatment up to ₹5 lakh in designated hospitals.
The Chief Medical and Health Officer informed that the government hospitals in the district include Medical College Shahdol, District Hospital Shahdol, Civil Hospital Byawari, Community Health Center, and the National Health Center. The government has empanelled centres at Gohparu, Singhpur, Budhar, Dhanpuri, Jhikbijuri, Jaisinghnagar, Central Hospital Budhar, PHC Lafda, Rampur, Urban Primary Health Centre, Baratra, Khairaha, Khannoudi, Kanchanpur, Bamhori and Channoudi and private hospitals like Amrita Hospital, Shriram Health Centre, Orthopedic Hospital, Swastik Health Care, Aditya Hospital, Devanta Hospital where free treatment is provided to the beneficiaries through Ayushman Card.

District Health Officer Dr. S.D. Kanwar informed that against the target of 798018 (seven lakh ninety eight thousand eighteen) Ayushman Card holders in the district, 730279 (seven lakh thirty thousand two hundred eighty nine) cards have been made so far. Which is 91.51 percent of the target and 67,739 cards are still being made. Similarly, in the extremely backward tribe Baiga (PVTG group), 100% Ayushman cards have been made against the upgraded target of 71149 and under the target group above 70 years (Aay Vandan Yojana), 16878 Ayushman cards have been made against the target of 38596, which is 43.73 percent of the target. Thus, the work of making Ayushman cards for 21,718 elderly people who are eligible for this scheme is in progress. If any beneficiary wants to get an Ayushman card made, then they can get information from empanelled hospitals, Asha workers and CHO and get the Ayushman card made and avail the benefits of this health insurance scheme of the government.
