Panic ensued, people fled from their homes
Ammonia gas leak from an ice factory in Mathura, UP created a stir. Due to gas leakage, people living near the factory started suffocating. Due to gas leakage, all the people had to run away from their homes. On receiving the information, the police administration reached the spot. The officers also rescued a sick woman living near the factory. The health department team gave oxygen to the woman. Fortunately, there was no loss of life.
Kanha Ice Factory is operated in West Pratap Nagar residential area of Maholi Road. Ammonia gas suddenly started leaking from the factory after 9 am on Sunday. Due to gas leakage in the surrounding area, a foul smell started spreading and people's eyes started burning. This created panic in the area. People informed the administration about difficulty in breathing and gas leakage. On receiving information about ammonia gas leakage, the district administration officials were in a panic. On receiving this information, City Magistrate Rakesh Kumar, CMO Dr. Ajay Kumar, Pollution Department, Fire Department along with Kotwali Police reached the spot with 108 ambulance. Control room in-charge Dr. Bhudev Singh also reached with the team. The fire department team sprayed water in the factory. The smell of gas started reducing. The gas leakage was stopped. Seeing the situation, the police stopped the traffic on both sides for safety.
The factory should be outside the populated area
After the gas leak, people were discussing among themselves that this type of factory should be outside the populated area. The NOC of the Pollution Department was also not told. During the gas leak, Dr. Bhudev Singh, a part of the Health Department team and his team rescued an old woman in a nearby house, put her on oxygen and shifted her to another house in 108 ambulance. Half a dozen people of the same family living in the house were also outside the house.
Gas was leaking for three days
The local people told that gas was leaking for about three days. The owner of the ice factory was not getting the old pipe lines repaired. A major accident was averted after the gas leak on Sunday morning. After the effect of the gas subsided after about an hour, the police made the traffic smooth. City Magistrate Rakesh Kumar started an investigation and called a team from the refinery. Officers and employees of various departments who arrived on the information of ammonia gas leak were doing relief work wearing masks for safety. They were also afraid that some trouble might happen.
Health related problems are possible
Dr. Bhudev Singh said that people may have health related problems due to coming in contact with ammonia gas. Along with shortness of breath, feeling like vomiting, burning sensation in the skin, nose and throat, problems like death are possible in serious cases. According to ophthalmologist Dr. Mukesh Jain, those who come in contact with this gas have burning sensation in the eyes and adverse effects. In case of more trouble, consult an ophthalmologist.
CMO Dr. AK Verma said, information about gas leak was received from the DM office. The team of the health department was immediately sent with an ambulance. There was no loss of life of any kind. Nor did anyone have any health related problems. The arrangements were checked by inspecting the spot. Officers from other departments were also present with the team.
