Amid heavy rains
a 4.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Maharashtra
Mumbai/Hingoli. People in Maharashtra were awakened early Thursday morning by the sound of a powerful earthquake. The earth quaked repeatedly in Hingoli district late last night, causing widespread panic. The strongest tremor was felt at 1:37 a.m., measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was reported near Pangra Shinde village in Wasmat tehsil. Subsequent milder tremors were felt at 2:15 a.m., 2:17 a.m., 2:48 a.m., and 2:50 a.m. Due to the continuous tremors, people in several villages rushed out of their homes as a precaution. However, no casualties or serious injuries have been reported so far.
Tremors felt in Hingoli and surrounding districts
The impact of the earthquake was not limited to Hingoli. Tremors were also felt in several areas of Udgir and Parbhani in Latur district. Minor cracks in the walls of houses have been reported in some rural areas, but no major damage or widespread damage has been confirmed. District administration teams are inspecting the affected areas and the situation is being continuously monitored. Officials have appealed to citizens to avoid rumors and immediately report any emergencies to the administration.
Torrential Rains Disrupt Life in Mumbai
While the earthquake in Hingoli caused concern, continuous heavy rains disrupted normal life in Mumbai and surrounding areas. Waterlogging on several major roads disrupted traffic, while waterlogging in low-lying areas made commuting difficult. Incidents of falling trees and collapsing walls were also reported at several locations. The rains also affected local train services and road traffic. Municipal corporations and relief agencies are engaged in drainage and relief operations. The Meteorological Department has advised people to leave their homes only when absolutely necessary.
The administration advised caution.
According to the Hingoli and Parbhani district administrations, the situation is fully under control, and experts are continuously monitoring the aftermath of the earthquake. All relevant departments are on alert to prepare for any potential emergency. In Mumbai, the Municipal Corporation and Disaster Management Department are continuously engaged in relief and monitoring operations. Officials have urged citizens not to believe unverified reports, to immediately report any damage or aftershocks, and to avoid waterlogged roads during the rains.
Earthquake and Rains Increase State's Concern
Maharashtra is currently facing a dual natural challenge. The earthquake tremor in Hingoli and surrounding areas has created panic among the people, while continuous heavy rains have disrupted normal life in several cities, including Mumbai. It is a matter of relief that no major loss of life or property has been confirmed so far. The administration and related agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Experts have appealed to people to remain alert instead of panicking, trust only official information and follow safety guidelines in case of a disaster.
