Indian Air Force and defense officials said that a MiG-29 fighter plane crashed in a field near Agra in Uttar Pradesh due to a technical fault during a routine training flight. The pilot ejected himself safely at the time of the accident. The plane had taken off from Adampur in Punjab and was going to Agra for practice when the accident happened.

An Indian Air Force MiG-29 aircraft crashed near Agra today due to a system malfunction during a routine training flight. Before ejecting safely, the pilot turned the plane to ensure there was no damage to life or property on the ground. An investigation has been ordered by the Indian Air Force to ascertain the cause of the accident, the Air Force said in a statement.

Plumes of smoke
Visuals from the site show plumes of smoke coming out of the crashed jet and some people gathering at the site. Officials said a Court of Inquiry will be ordered into the accident. This is not the first time that a MiG-29 fighter jet has crashed and burst into flames.

On September 2, a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed after a technical fault in Barmer, Rajasthan. The pilot managed to eject safely before the crash. The fighter jet, which was on a training mission from the Air Force base in the Barmer sector, malfunctioned and caught fire soon after crashing into a field near Uttarlai in Barmer, where there was no habitation.
