A large part of the railing of the bridge being built at a cost of Rs 1600 crore connecting Fulaut to Bihpur on Bihpur-Virpur NH-106 in Bhagalpur, Bihar, got damaged and fell into the Kosi river. The accident happened when a heavy structure segment weighing 125 tonnes was being taken from Bihpur to Fulaut on the bridge path in a 90-wheeled vehicle. This incident happened around 2.30 am on Friday night.

During this time, the pressure pipe of the vehicle burst and the balance of the vehicle got disturbed and the heavy structure slipped and broke the 40 meter long railing of the bridge and fell into the river. The width of that segment is said to be about seven meters and the length is 30 meters. The officials and engineers of the construction company immediately reached the spot and investigation of the matter has been started. Navgachiya SDO Rituraj Pratap Singh said that the damage will be repaired soon by the construction agency. NHAI Project Director Abhishek said that accidents keep happening in construction work, currently the technical reasons are being investigated.

Due to this accident near Hariyo Trimuhan on Kosi river, about 40 feet railing of NH-106 has been damaged. However, no casualties have been reported in this accident and the construction agency employees narrowly escaped. Five other segments have also been completely damaged due to the incident.

It is also worth mentioning here that two major accidents have already happened at this bridge construction site, in which once the entire pillar collapsed in strong current and the second time the pillar collapsed. After these incidents, two pillars have been constructed this time on the advice of engineers.

Under this bridge and road project being built on Kosi river from Bihpur to Phulaut, a 6.94 km long bridge and 21.988 km road on both sides are being constructed. This important project is targeted to be completed by 2026, which will prove to be a big relief for the communication system and traffic of the region. The local administration and the construction agency are working hard together to complete the project soon so that such an accident can be avoided again and the project can be completed on time.
