AAP candidate quits Faridabad assembly seat in Haryana
Supports BJP candidate
Faridabad. There was a big political stir at the local level on Saturday night, when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Faridabad assembly constituency Pravesh Mehta supported BJP candidate Vipul Goyal. He withdrew himself from the electoral fray in a program organized by Mukesh Shastri and Pankaj Shastri at Old Faridabad Grain Market in the presence of Union Minister of State Krishnapal Gurjar.
From a political point of view, this is being considered a big victory for Vipul Goyal. Pravesh Mehta is a big Punjabi face in this assembly constituency and has been a former councilor of the Municipal Corporation, his wife also became a councilor once. When Faridabad assembly constituency came into existence after delimitation in 2009, Pravesh Mehta was the only one in the election fray on BJP ticket and he got 22903 votes and stood second.
He joined AAP two years ago
When he did not get a BJP ticket in 2014, he left the BJP and contested on an INLD ticket in this election and got more than 12 thousand votes. He joined AAP two years ago.
AAP has now given him a ticket and he was actively campaigning for the past several days, but in an unexpected turn of events on Saturday evening, he supported BJP candidate Vipul Goyal.
He put BJP's sash around his neck
It is a big shock for a candidate of a party which has a government in Delhi and Punjab to leave the field in the middle of the election campaign. Pravesh Mehta put a BJP sash around his neck and sought votes in support of Vipul Goyal. He said that our support and faith is with him.
We have joined BJP under the leadership of Vipul Goyal for the development and progress of the region. Let us tell you that despite this, Pravesh Mehta's name will remain in the EVM.
