Ahmedabad, A tragic accident shook the entire city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Saturday. A massive explosion at an alleged illegal firecracker factory in the Vastral area, followed by a fire, has claimed the lives of nine people so far, and injured nine others. One of the injured remains in critical condition. The explosion was so powerful that its sound was heard nearly five kilometers away. The accident created panic in the area. Police, fire department, and rescue teams rushed to the scene and began relief operations.

Explosion at factory on Ramol-Gatrad Road

The accident occurred at a firecracker manufacturing unit located behind the Rapid Action Force (RAF) camp on Ramol-Gatrad Road in Ahmedabad. Immediately after the explosion, a massive fire spread through the factory, and a large portion of the building collapsed, burying many workers under the rubble. Hearing the explosion, nearby RAF personnel were the first to arrive and began rescue operations, rescuing many people from the debris even before the fire department arrived. Several fire engines later arrived and began efforts to control the fire.

Injured treated at LG Hospital and Civil Hospital

According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, eight people died in the accident at LG Hospital, while one succumbed to his injuries at Civil Hospital. All the injured are undergoing treatment at LG Hospital and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Many people suffered severe burns and serious injuries. After the fire was brought under control, the fire department conducted a prolonged cooling operation to prevent the fire from flaring up again. Relief and rescue operations continued until late in the evening.

Initial investigation reveals illegal operations

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the factory where the accident occurred was allegedly operating without a valid license. According to police, the factory operator has been identified as Mehul Dodia. Officials say the unit's license had already been revoked, yet firecrackers were allegedly being manufactured there. Police are now investigating how safety standards were ignored and whose connivance allowed the illegal operation to continue. Strict action is being prepared against those responsible.

President, Prime Minister, and Chief Minister express condolences

President Draupadi Murmu expressed deep condolences over the accident, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also expressed grief over the accident. Both leaders announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased and the injured. The administration has assured that the case will be investigated impartially and strict action will be taken against the culprits, so that recurrence of such incidents can be prevented in future.
