4 hour long Dharna for improvement of Ghantaghar road in Katni
Protesters got assurance of road improvement

Katni, Under the leadership of Dussehra Mahotsav Manch of Katni district, a 4 hour long continuous Dharna was held for the improvement of Ghantaghar road and procession road in Jagannath Chowk. It started at 11 am. People of the Manch say that the Dharna will continue till our demands are not met. During the demonstration, there was a huge jam all around the city at Azad Chowk, Ghantaghar, Mission Chowk, Jagannath Chowk, Kelavara turn across the river. People were stuck in the jam for hours. Police force from four police stations of the district along with traffic police took charge of the demonstration. SDM also kept on persuading the protesters to end the protest, but the demonstration continued for 4 hours. In the end, Municipal Corporation Mayor Preeti Suri and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shishir Gemawat reached the protesters and after listening to their demands, assured them that by this Navratri, green mat will be laid from Chandak Chowk to the temple and on the other side from Ghantaghar to the temple, so that the devotees will not face any problems in walking on this road. The protesters remained adamant that they will prepare the Damal Road from their own funds, but the district administration and city administration present in front of the demonstrations did not allow this and said that for the time being, to avoid problems to the devotees, they will lay green mat till Navratri and whatever action will be taken as per the rules, a paved road will be constructed from Chandak Chowk to Ghantaghar. After which the protesters agreed and lifted the blockade which was going on for the last 4 hours.
