22-year-old Saloni murdered in her in-laws' house
They were demanding dowry for buying a car and building a house
Patna, a newly married woman was strangled to death in Bihar's West Champaran district. Her body was found on Friday from her in-laws' house at Khiraya Ghat in Bairia police station area. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Saloni Devi. The police have arrested her husband. They were married a few months ago. Her parents have alleged that her in-laws were demanding dowry for buying a car and building a house since the wedding. Saloni was being constantly harassed at her in-laws' house.
SDPO Rajnishkant Priyadarshi said that Saloni Devi's body was recovered from her in-laws' house at 12 noon on Friday. The body has been sent to Bettiah's Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem. The post-mortem report will reveal the cause of death. The family has alleged that she was strangled to death for not getting dowry. Saloni's husband, Indira Awas Sahayak Abhijeet Singh, has been arrested.
Munchun Singh, a resident of Brijbaniya village of Sirisiya police station area, her brother-in-law, who came to GMCH hospital for post-mortem of Saloni Devi's body, said that they were informed about the incident on Friday morning. He said that Saloni's elder sister Pooja Devi, who lives in Bettiah, called and said that Saloni's in-laws called her and told her that she was unwell. Saloni's maternal home is in Pipariya Badgaon of Bagaha. On receiving the information about Saloni's ill health, he immediately reached his daughter's in-laws' house along with other family members.
At that time, Saloni's husband Abhijeet Singh was arrested by the Bairia police team. Saloni's body was lying on the bed in her room. Saloni's father Vijay Bahadur Singh said that his daughter was being constantly harassed for dowry since her marriage. Her in-laws would sometimes demand a car in dowry and sometimes money for casting the house. Saloni was strangled to death due to not giving dowry.
