17 people died due to poisonous liquor in the villages of Majitha assembly constituency of Punjab. This is the fourth major poisonous liquor tragedy in Punjab in three years.

Chief Minister Bhagwat Singh Mann reached Majitha in the afternoon and met the victim families. During this, the Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim families. He also promised to take care of the education and other facilities of the children of the family.

The Chief Minister said that so far 10 people have been arrested in this case. During the investigation, it was found that 600 kg of methanol was ordered online, through which this liquor was prepared. At present, the accused are being interrogated and the work of dismantling their entire network is also going on.

He was told that this methanol was ordered from Delhi, so a team has also been sent to Delhi to catch the people from whom its supply was coming. Soon the entire network will be exposed. He said that in this case, excise and police inspectors have also been suspended and efforts are being made to find out if any political or other big people were behind these people.

On this incident, Mann said that sad news has been received about the death of many people due to drinking poisonous liquor in the villages around Majitha. These killers of innocent people will not be spared at any cost. These are not deaths, but murders. These culprits who created an atmosphere of mourning in people's homes with poisonous liquor will be given the strictest punishment according to the law. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls. The government stands with the victim families and every possible help will be provided.

Main supplier arrested

SSP Amritsar Maninder Singh said that last night at around 9:30 pm, information was received that people were dying due to drinking spurious liquor. We took immediate action and detained four people. We have arrested the main supplier Parbjit Singh. We questioned him and found out about the kingpin supplier Sahib Singh. We have also taken him into custody. We are investigating from which companies he has bought this liquor.

The accused include Kulbir Singh alias Jaggu (brother of main accused Prabhjeet), Sahib Singh alias Sarai, resident of Mardi Kalan, Gurjant Singh, Ninder Kaur wife of Jeeta.

We have been given strict instructions by the Punjab government to take strict action against the suppliers of spurious liquor. Raids are on. The manufacturers will be taken into custody soon. Two FIRs have been registered under strict sections. The civil administration and we are going door-to-door to find out who has consumed spurious liquor so that more lives can be saved. 17 deaths have been confirmed and 6 people are currently hospitalized. The incident took place in five villages.

Many people are critical

According to locals, the death toll may increase as many people are critical. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni said that an unfortunate tragedy has happened in Majitha. We received reports from 5 villages that the condition of people who consumed liquor yesterday is critical. We sent our medical teams. Our medical teams are still going door to door. Whether people have some symptoms or not, we are taking them to the hospital so that we can save them. So far 14 people have died. The government is providing all possible help. We are ensuring that this death toll does not increase... We have arrested the suppliers and further investigation is going on.
