1200 schools have been closed in Himachal Pradesh so far, Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur himself informed about this and said that in the last two and a half years, a total of 1200 schools in the state have been closed. He further said that 450 schools have been closed where not even a single child was enrolled, while the number of children in the rest is being reported to be less.

Another 100 schools may be closed
The minister said that many important decisions are being taken by the state government to strengthen the education department and if required, merger as well as reorganization of schools is also being considered. He further said that a parameter has been set to add schools if the enrollment is less than 25 from class 6 to 12 and about 100 schools will be denotified if it is zero. The state government has given permanent jobs to 778 part-time water carriers working in the education department, who had completed 11 years of service till March 31, 2025.

Recruitment will be done soon on 15000 posts

In his statement, he further said that the government has fulfilled the long-standing demand of the employees. The government is also focusing on filling the vacant posts further, for this 15000 posts of teachers have been approved, which includes 3900 posts in the Primary Education Department. And additional 3100 posts are to be filled soon through Himachal Pradesh Selection Commission.

Apart from this, the minister also said that the recruitments which were stopped during the previous government, are being filled by the present government. 6200 nursery teachers are being appointed to strengthen the pre-primary, while 483 assistant professors will be recruited in the higher education department.
